+ (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
+ that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
+ To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

+
Cheese is a fun webcam booth application which lets you take photos and record videos using your webcam. It can take multiple photos in quick succession (using
), and lets you
that add a special, fancy, or funny touch to your photos and videos.

+
+
By default, Cheese starts in <gui>Photo Mode</gui>, ready to
. You need to switch to Video Mode to
, or switch to Burst Mode to
.

+
+
Cheese works with most webcams, but if your particular make and model doesn't seem to work properly, see
for advice on getting it to function.

+</comment>
+
+
If it says "No device found" when you open Cheese, it means that your webcam was not detected properly. Try the following suggestions to get it to recognize your webcam:

+
+ <list>
+

+
Make sure that the webcam's power switch is on, if it has one. Also, some laptops have a switch/key to enable/disable the webcam; so, check that the power lead is plugged in firmly too. A good way of checking that the webcam is working properly is to plug it into another computer to see if it's detected.

+

+

+
Some webcams need extra software to be installed before they can work. This is called a device driver, and whether you need one or not will depend on your . Install a device driver for your video card. Find your driver in
or
.

+

+

If you still have some problems, check all packages that are necessary for running <app>Cheese</app>. See more in
.

+
This topic needs cleaning up a little. It needs to explain the problem (and what the user would expect to see if they had that problem) more clearly. There should also be a stronger division between different solutions, and more explanation of what each solution is trying to address.

+</comment>
+
+
Maybe you are trying to open up <app>Cheese</app> and it does not display the picture from the webcam, even though the webcam light is on. To get your camera working with <app>Cheese</app> follow these recommendations:

+<steps>
+

+
First, you will have to ensure that it works with the
(i.e.
) and Video4Linux2 (V4L2) or Video4Linux (V4L). See some packages
. To
+test this, you can use the 'gstreamer-properties' tool or use this
.

+

If the problem persists, check if your video card has the specific driver. Most of the time, general drivers are installed or detected by default instead of the specific one. To know what driver you need, see the
or check the
; and search your webcam driver in
or
.

+

Finally, if the problem continues, change the
setting of the camera. Some applications can't detect the camera's resolution, so they put by defatult a diferent resolution of your webcam in the initial configuration.

+</steps>
+
See some
and
with the <app>Cheese technology</app>.

+
Make the webcam video preview bigger

+
+
The photo stream is where photos and videos appear after you have taken/recorded them. By default, it is a horizontal strip at the bottom of the Cheese window.

+
+
You can make the photo stream appear as a vertical bar instead. This is useful if you have a wide computer screen that is not very high; switching to a vertical layout means that there is more room to display the video feed from the webcam.

+
+
To switch to a vertical layout, click <guiseq><gui>Cheese</gui><gui>Wide Mode</gui></guiseq>. To switch back to a horizontal layout, do the same thing.

+
+
Another way of increasing the size of the webcam preview is to make Cheese fullscreen. To do this, click <guiseq><gui>Cheese</gui><gui>Fullscreen</gui></guiseq> or press <key>F11</key>. You can get out of fullscreen mode, press <key>F11</key>.
