Transparency gradient for clutter actors

Hi ,

Its a newbie question. Instead of setting a fixed transparency value i need a transparency gradient over a clutter actor.

Is there some means by which i could implement the same ? 

Using cairo pattern I can add a transparent gradient over a clutter actor but i am not looking for an overlay over the actor i expect the actor to have a transparency gradient.  

Any info would be of great help.
