(possibly a little OT, not directly cheese development related but more cheese deployment related)
hey all,
i've been building some number of videobooth type installations for public spaces. some mobile on the street, some stationary in art galleries, libraries, etc. both with linux/cheese and mac systems.
working on putting together a grant for knight news challenge.
newschallenge.org
grants are like lottery tickets so it's never a good idea to get hopes up to high but here is the working concept.
*the small news network*
Part 1. the local network
a collection of some number of people(~20-30?) around the US (world is great but not sure if they will fund it that way) who would find a public space in their town (library, church, cafe, rock club, community center, school, etc) and install and maintain a public videobooth.
the booth would publish to some social video site or maintain a torrent server on itself? tagging options? local variations, etc. exact details tbd. all content public domain.
Part 2. the larger network
an aggregate site of some sort which allows people to browse, playlist, etc. so each region might form some sort of meta television stations.
the key ideas would be
1. face to face bandwidth is always highest, give people reason to spend time in shared spaces
2. read/write-access through shared devices
3. memory for public spaces enables collaboration
4. information technology that is physical space centric rather than person centric
any thoughts? anyone interested in participating? feel free to reply off list if that seems more appropriate.
thanks,
dan
