using prerelaese version in the ubuntu package management blocked
release update from 10.04 to 10.10. This resulted in a complete new
installation with some negative sideeffects (some data got lost, not so
many, but some however.) this I would very much like to avoid in the
future. and ubuntu has a reasonable update frequency.
