unable to get cheese working with my uvcvideo driver based webcam

hi all,
I am using fedora8 on a acer laptop with a usb webcam. I am using the
uvcvideo driver for it and luvcview application is working fine.
However, when I start cheese , it says iunable to find webcam.Sorry!
on the terminal a whole lot of message flows out :-

using photo source: videotestsrc

Now, I did a bit of reading around and assume that the problem is with
the gstreamer-plugins-0.10.6 which is loaded on my machine. Will a
upgrade to later version of plugin help and is that the real cause of
the problem ?
Any help to solve the problem could be useful....thanks
