Could you post on the ticket all the output you see on the console when you run california with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all?

Thanks.  It appears as though you may also be experiencing this bug:  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=735968  though, again . . . I can't say for certain. The larger problem is the same, but  I can't speak to the particular cause.
