I use Brasero occasionally, usually burning live-disks so as to experiment with one linux distribution or another. Obviously I am grateful Brasero works as well as it does!
I would like to be sure I understand what Brasero is doing with checksums during the burning of a DVD.
When one starts a project, while the window says “Burning Data DVD” (or whatever the project may be) in the lower left it shows, “Creating checksum”.
It cycles through “Starting to record”, “Estimate drive speed”, and “Finalizing”, and then “Creating image checksum” and then (if all goes well) “Success”.
When “Creating checksum” is mentioned in the first instance, does this mean that Brasero has done a checksum for the original image?
When it is mentioned again, does this mean that a checksum has been prepared from the burnt image?
Does “Success” mean that the two checksums have been compared?
If the answers to all these questions is yes, is there a way of seeing those checksums?
Similarly, in Tools>Check Integrity, if I check the option “Use an MD5 file to check the disk” does this mean that I should have copied an MD5 file from within an iso image, or that it will look at an iso image to find an MD5 file, or something else entirely?
Alternately, if I place a live-disk in the DVD reader and simply tell Brasero to check it,what is it checking?
I am not sure whether this all will sound more picayune or clueless, but I would like a better understanding of what I am working with, and I think might fit usefully in Brasero Help.
