Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem on GNU Guix (also a functional package management system like Nix).

Hey @rekado, please create a new issue for this, so it's a) about GUIX, and b) we're discussing stuff on an open issue ;-)
If possible, it could help if you join #beast on irc.gimp.org, since I need a bit of hand holding with understanding packaging issues around GUIX.
