MERGE: alsa-fixes - fix crash in ALSA driver (#577340)

A user has reported a crash triggered by the ALSA driver in

There are really two problems here: problems playing back the sound properly,
and a crash triggered by resetting the read handle although the device was
opened write only. This merge request only fixes the crash. Please merge:
