Can banshee not use the native Mac OS font APIs? If it did then it
could use the default application font and have a full Unicode backup
set.
I believe in GNOME banshee uses GNOME's settings to use
user-set/default application fonts and the font settings also define
"backup fonts", so even if the characters arn't in the font, they
should be in one of the backup fonts.

So the bug here is Banshee doesn't use Mac OS's font infrastructure
(APIs), and so both integrates less, and on occasion causes errors
such as your case.
