I have noticed that as I am playing songs (both mp3 and ogg) with banshee, it's making alterations to the files. Look for example at this particular track in my backup history: -rwxr-xr-x 1 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-20 21:56 /.snapshots/daily.4/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 3 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-21 12:26 /.snapshots/daily.3/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 3 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-21 12:26 /.snapshots/daily.2/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 3 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-21 12:26 /.snapshots/daily.1/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 4 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-24 12:29 /.snapshots/hourly.1/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 4 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-24 12:29 /.snapshots/hourly.0/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 4 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-24 12:29 /.snapshots/_delete.11466/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 -rwxr-xr-x 4 brian brian 13519978 2009-08-24 12:29 /.snapshots/daily.0/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 as you can see, it's the same size as it has always been yet it was altered on Aug. 21 and 24th. md5sum confirms the contents have been changed: 045a7fdb8a96556c8e0551ca95bc8dc2 /.snapshots/daily.0/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 5a00541c9ea201cdbe62f0017046526e /.snapshots/daily.1/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 5a00541c9ea201cdbe62f0017046526e /.snapshots/daily.2/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 5a00541c9ea201cdbe62f0017046526e /.snapshots/daily.3/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 4df92e908c1872affb085fee0568fa0d /.snapshots/daily.4/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 045a7fdb8a96556c8e0551ca95bc8dc2 /.snapshots/_delete.11466/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 045a7fdb8a96556c8e0551ca95bc8dc2 /.snapshots/hourly.0/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 045a7fdb8a96556c8e0551ca95bc8dc2 /.snapshots/hourly.1/linux/mnt/mp3/library/Alice in Chains/Nothing Safe: Best of the Box/07 Down in a Hole.mp3 Any ideas why this is happening? I suspect it's id3 tag manipulation or something. If I had an "id3diff" tool, I might be able to tell for sure. But I don't. Maybe the cause is known already? b.
