It's not an encryption problem. iPhone and iPod touch simply do not connect as
USB mass storage devices anymore. They advertise different USB profiles
(one of which is a PTP interface, that's why it's detected as a "camera"),
but none of them has a mass storage interface. iTunes (on Windows)
talks to the device via a proprietary protocol (that's the Apple media service
daemon or sum such). But the on-disk structure of the music storage
seems the same, so in theory Banshee or any other Linux media player
would work _if you can get to the iPhone's disk at all_. Note that most of
the stuff in the above URL isn't concerned with the Linux side at all -
it describes, how to jailbreak your iPhone so that you can install an sshd
server and export its disk via ssh over WLAN.
