I had a similar problem to this. Mine was fixed by completely
uninstalling banshee and the plugins and then doing a fresh compile
and install. I didn't mess with the banshee stuff in my home directory
so my music database and all that remained just fine.

I had at one point created a custom audio profile (for mp3 encoding via
sound juicer) but I've removed that and I still get the same problem.

Any ideas?
