Yeah I thought along those lines and tried to recompile a few things.
Perhaps I missed something so I will retry with the information you
provided. 
Banshee and the plugins package should automatically use gmcs
if available? What about gtk-sharp? What other packages have to 
be rebuild?

No, 1.1.15 release currently. Do I need HEAD?
