[Banshee-List] MTP support for Banshee...

Hey all you Banshee users,

I'm on the prowl for some testers for what will become yet another DAP type supported by Banshee - MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) (superset of PTP) (aka, Microsoft PlaysForSure).

If you have or have access to a MTP device and would like to test (including testing a CVS copy of both banshee and libgphoto2 which is required), please drop me an email.

Known devices that use this protocol are:
Creative devices: anything of the Zen or newer line running the new (2.x) firmware, or the Zen Sleek/Touch/Vision/Xtra. Also some new "Dell DJ Ditty's" Be sure it's not a NJB (PDE) device before trying this driver, they're completely different. NJB support in Banshee is excellent - this is not an invitation for you NJB folks to upgrade to the MTP firmware.
iRiver devices: T10/20/30, U10, H10, H30?, Portable Media Center
Phillips: HDD6320
Samsung: YP-T7J, YH-999 Portable Media Center
Toshiba: Gigabeat
Intel: Bandon Portable Media Center

and of course...since this is a relatively standardized protocol...there are many more devices out there using it. If you can find your device on PlaysForSure.com and you know it's not a USB mass storage device, then it's a MTP device and this DAP plugin & driver should work for you. I'm more than welcome to helping folks test items not on the list above!

What WORKS:
* device detection & loading
* track adding (full synchronize support just like ipods and njb's)
    * organizes tracks into artist/album folders automatically
* track deleting
* listing of tracks on device

What DOESN'T WORK:
* playback from the device
* metadata editing (in the works)
* fast startup support (right now it's pretty slow)

This code has matured a lot in the last month and is begging to be tested out by some other folks :)

If you have one of these devices and have been grounded to the barebones basic transfer utilities like id34mtp, MTPdude, or gnomad2...I encourage you to get in touch with me and experience Banshee's excellent DAP integration :)

Drop me an email if you're interested in testing or at least want to view the code :)
