Check the website for install guide to the newer version of Banshee. 0.10.4 is available for Breezy and the current 0.10.6 will probably be available real soon if it isn't yet. That will take care of tons of bugs and has a lot of improvements. My understanding is that a good portion has been rewritten and a plugin system was implemented the .10 series. 
0.9.6 is on the verge of ancient. :-)

You'll also want to check the FAQs for how to get MP3 support with Banshee if you haven't run into that yet.

Alternately, upgrade to Dapper where this is all in the repo with 
0.10.6.
