Banshee 0.9.4 is now out, with improved CD ripping and encoding.

http://banshee-project.org/files/banshee/ChangeLog
1. Bugs fixed in CD ripping core and UI layers
2. Pipeline profiles for encoding presets. Users can choose to which
formats they want to rip, and set bitrate on formats that support it.
Only available, working encoders will show up. Simple UI from the
Preferences dialog, and any kind of GStreamer pipeline profile can be
entered from gconf for advanced configuration.
3. Massive memory leak fixed in the Xing encoder. Xing must be
explicitly enabled with --enable-xing at configure time. Note to
packagers: unless you have a license to do so, *do not* --enable-xing!
4. Minor UI enhancements and bug fixes
5. Configurable file name patterns for ripping and importing. The
default pattern is:
%artist%/%album%/%track_number%. %title%
Which will create a two-level directory structure for albums, and name
the track with the track number and its title inside the directory
structure. 7 tokens exist for creating and filling in the patterns:
%artist%
%album%
%title%
%track_number%
%track_count%
%track_number_nz% (no preceding zero)
%track_count_nz% (no preceding zero)
Currently no UI for this, but it can be configured through a GConf key:
/apps/Banshee/FileNamePattern
Enjoy,
Aaron
