I'm not trying to build.  When I go to File->Address Book->Run Editor, 
Balsa says: 

balsa-ab: error while loading shared libraries: libgmime-2.4.so.2: 
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

OTOH, ldd /usr/bin/balsa|grep gmime says

	libgmime-2.6.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgmime-2.6.so.0 (0x426f5000)

So I don't understand.  FWIW, locate libgmime says
    /usr/lib/libgmime-2.6.so.0
    /usr/lib/libgmime-2.6.so.0.508.0
