I just upgraded to 2.14.5 and 2.19.2 from rawhide--I'm still not seeing the issue. There must be some other key difference between our setups, but I'd sure like to know what it is.
Rereading <URL:http://live.gnome.org/GnomeGoals/RemoveGnomeOpenGnomeHelp>, I notice that the goal is to replace gnome_help and gnome-open calls with gtk_show_uri--but it says nothing about gnome_url_show. The Gtk doc for gtk_show_url says "This function can be used as a replacement for gnome_vfs_url_show() and gnome_url_show()", but perhaps that's not yet quite true.
