compiler warning with gcc3.3

i am experiencing the following warning:

gcc ... -c abook-completion.c
cc1: Warnung: "-Wsign-promo" is valid for C++ but not for C/ObjC
make: *** [abook-completion.o] Fehler 1


gcc -v
... gcc-Version 3.3 20030509 (Debian prerelease)


now i cannot compile balsa :(
