FWIW, I noticed that the paragraphs do not run together if you do the 
following:

1) Type and finish email
2) Go to the Options menu and unselect "Format = Flowed"
3) Send message

My only guess is that the Format=Flowed (RFC 2646) implementation is 
cutting off some of the endline characters (which would explain the 
need to add extra line breaks to make sure at least one exists in the 
final message).
