Wow, that sounds cool! I opt for trying it. Looks as if we can simply put 
it into libbalsa-utf8_sanitize() and then omit the extra options in the 
prefs window (already crowded there...).

Are you interested in a windows-1252 text (with inter alia the Euro "¤" 
character)? Afaik this is what winbloze clients produce (and claim to send 
iso8859-1) in Old Europe, but it's missing in your list. I could send it 
to you tomorrow (I have a win machine a work only).
