'make dist' w/o .po file update?

I'm really tired of waiting for translation updates I don't really need, 
and the msgmerge stuff sometimes even manages to hang my computer ;-( Is 
there a simple way to create a distribution without updating po files 
(i.e. relying on the files from CVS)?
