ok, on rh72 i don't have -lssl in any makefile and it isn't present in the
libtool but it shows up in the final link line so i'm blaming libtool here.
as far as i can remember suse6.4 was libc5 so it didn't have -lcrypto but it
did have a totally messed up gnome install. With some luck he's using ximian
and libtool picks up some dependency from a gnome lib. in that case he has a
broken rpm deps or a bad ximian package. all bets are off :\
