ups, need to correct myself here.

./configure script usually checks if your libs are
new enought for balsa

rpm packs usually checks, depends on the spec file
if the version matches or not.

but all in all i would say.. be as new as possible
to avoid trouble :) if balsa will move to gnome 2
then i bet this question wont affect anything anymore.
