SMTP server dropped connection problem

Hi. I've installed BALSA. Receives mail just fine, but I can't send
mail. I get a:
SMTP server problem: SMTP Server dropped connection
error. I can send mail via the same SMTP server using Netscape (or
Mozilla).
Not really sure where to start to try and diagnose this.
