You will need to re-run autogen.sh to recreate the configure script, else 
the macros will not get used. If you have a tarball distribution, you may 
need to make distclean or make spotless or whatever the makefile allows, 
then run autogen.sh.
On CVS, just re-run autogen.sh then make.
