Hello,
When i was changing the message handling in Balsa from the libmutt version
to a GMime version, i had an encounter with the libmutt mailbox functions.
And i decided to have a look around.
The current situation, correct me if i'm wrong, is that for Balsa libmutt
does:
-mailbox handling
-mime message parsing/building
-address parsing
The last 2 can be changed to the GMime library implementation, but not the
first. Looking around for existing mailbox libraries, i found some 'not
started' entries at SourceForge, and none at freshmeat. When i was writing
this message i remembered that GNU also has a project repository, looking
there i found http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/mailutils/ they are still
trying to get a good API, so they may like some suggestions from mail
client writers. IMHO i think they try to be to much at once, they can have
a nice lib if they only do the mail retrieval and storage.
I also found this email:
http://mail.gnu.org/pipermail/bug-mailutils/2001-February/000084.html
but only camel could be an option, libpostal is not much. FYI Camel is
used in evolution and has a bonobo interface as far as i can tell.
So what are the requirments for a mailbox lib for Balsa?
Bart
