Ok I read the attached file, and to avoid to manually edit the Makefiles,
you have to do the following : after having patched the source tree,
execute ./macros/autogen.sh (perhaps you have to specify parameters on
command line, I hope someone will correct me), this should regenerate all
Makefile.in files to take care of new sources introduced by the patch in
Makefile.am. After that you can as usual run ./configure --enable-all (this
is needed to have filters compiled in) and make :-)
