yeah exactly this happens, telnetting to port 25 will take ages.. my solution
therefore was to change my outgoing smtp server to my university smtp server
instead of my isp's smtp server...

btw: thanks for these few lines, this also solved another problem at least
for some friends of me that complained that their local smtp server takes
ages for connection.. maybe its related to the same issue..
