I have seen this. It happens when autoconf fails to set HAVE_GCONF. It's a
quite complicated one to track down, and I haven't managed to find a
definite cause. Apparently, some rpm (notably Mandrake) don't come with the
.sh files needed for gnome-config. I resolved the issue by removing all
gtkhtml components and installing properly made RPM ones. Watch the output
from configure for more clues. Do _not_ try to simply set HAVE_GCONF in
config.h. That makes it crash on startup, you need to have the the proper
versions of the libs, the call must have been changed a few versions ago.
