Ad. 1) option -m is described in balsa(1) (man page). But doc/ online
manual update are welcome, as always.

Ad. 2). as one conclude from your experiment, it is not balsa problem. It
is difficult for me to determine if this is gnome problem (or more
precisely your gnome configuration) or yours. It works fine for me.
