gtk problem?

I've been getting the following errors whenever I launch any Gnome
aware app or any app I have [placed into the panel. I'm running gnome
0.99.3 RPMS on RH5.2 (had to do a --force --nodeps to get the RPMS to
install but I checked and had all necessary extras). What am I
missing here?
Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkwidget.c: line 3703 (gtk_widget_set_events):
assertion `!GTK_WIDGET_REALIZED (widget)' failed.
