Thanks Shashwat for the cool job!

Pockey, just to note, I am based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh which is quite far off Chennai, Tamil Nadu. I'll help in spreading the word though. :)

Dear pockey,

We have decided to start Chennai Gnome user group from the month of July 2011 :). As the semester is going to end we are not able to give sufficient time for this because of some official problems. In between the summer holidays I will establish the www.chennai.gnome.org webpage and the mailing list too.

Hi Shaswat,

It's really a great news for GNOME! I think Chandni is based in Chennai too, I am sure she will be more than happy to help establish the Chennai GNOME User Group together with you! I copied her in this email. Do update us the status regularly :) Have fun and all the best!

Dear Pockey,

We need to have more GUGs and Gnome awareness in India. So i want to start a gnome user group in my college SRM University,Chennai , India .While giving the talk on Gnome and student contribution and interacting with different students in Gnome Asia Summit , I felt that students are enthusiastic about contributing to gnome but they dint know from where to begin their journey.Being the founder and coordinator of SRM Linux user group ( www.srmlug.blogspot.com) it will be easy task for me to get permission from administration for  starting a Gnome user Group. I would like to hear from you what else we need before starting it.

It's exciting to hear that you will start a GNOME User Group in Chennai, India!

As mentioned, you have the passion and love to GNOME, you already  have more than enough to start a GUG! Please feel free to follow the steps and tips from my slide (Building GUG) here and then start your first meeting!

Please also add your group to http://live.gnome.org/UserGroups#GNOME_India so other people can find you from our GUG list.
Regarding building a website, if you need help of having a domain name or hosting service, please feel free to let us know.

Besides, we noticed that there is a demand of purchasing GNOME merchandises e.g. tshirts in India :)
If your GNOME user group is interested in building or working with other companies to provide GNOME merchandises (with reference of http://www.zazzle.com/gnome) to Chennai or the Indian market, please consider to sign the "Trademark Agreement for Users Groups" with the GNOME Foundation which you can find here: http://live.gnome.org/Trademark

If you would like to help us to establish a GNOME store in India, please send board gnome org a signed copy of the form if you find it agreeable.

All the best and do keep us posted on the status of your GNOME User Group!
Pockey

Shaswat Nimesh
