I went to check why lept was installed in the machine in the first
place, and found that it was a dependency for tesseract OCR. 

Strangely enough, tesseract seems to have compiled without having a
problem with the pkg-config file! Maybe that was because all of lept's
dependencies were also required by other packages... It's still strange
that the tesseract build process did not complain.
