Eugenia was working on this during her outreach program but I haven't
heard back from her afterwards and I don't think there is any code for
it yet.

There is a tracker bug (containing obsolete patches for the old dialog):

However I would encourage you to first do some dialog design in glade
and post this here or in the bug for review. It isn't totally easy to
get right, especially the file patterns. 

In general I like the idea of regexxer [1] where you first specify a
pattern and it shows you the list of files to search for. We want to
have some shortcuts though for "All project files", "All source files"
and maybe some others. Maybe it is also convenient to have the search
"dialog" as a dock.

From the backend the whole searching should be asynchronous of course.
