[Vala] Vala tutorial for C programmers?

Hi,

I would like to give Vala a try. However I don't know much about C#. I
can grok Vala samples but not so confident I can write one. What I
need is a tutorial, or maybe just language syntax in BNF or similar
forms.
I'd like to ask here first before I dig into Vala source code. If no
one has such a document, I can write up one while exploring Vala and
put it in live.gnome.org.

BTW, has anyone made syntax highlight package for emacs or vim?
