[Shotwell] Limit to number of pictures?

I ran a folder import on a nested set of folders with thousands of 
images accumulated over the last decade with duplicates all over the 
place (I'm terrible at organizing). Shotwell reported:

Attempted to import 149790 files. Of these, 16618 files were 
successfully imported.

I'm not sure why it tried to import 149790, but 16618 makes sense. 
Unfortunately, after the import was finished, the Library had less than 
1000 files in it (it was empty at the start).

Does anyone know why this happened?

Shotwell version 0.15.1, Ubuntu 13.04.
