Re: [orca-list] Cannot install speech dispatcher from git

Oh, I'll bet you started speech dispatcher like you described but then
didn't logout and back in first. I need to document that some place.
This is because an environment variable, $SPEECHD_ADDRESS has to be
set and this will be done automatically every time you login with any
user account (accept gdm). When speech dispatcher starts on an Arch
Linux system, it makes the short shell script in
/etc/profile.d/speechd executable and when speechd is stopped, it
makes that same file unexecutable. I don't know of any way to
automatically source this file whenever this changes for any currently
active users. The only way I know is to log back in each time this
condition changes. Now that I have everything tested out and all, I
have speechd start in the DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf so speech
dispatcher is already running before any users login. That way, the
environment variable is set appropriately and speech dispatcher can be
accessed by all users as a system service.

Hi,
OK, so I managed to get everything installed, but when I try to start speech-dispatcher with
/etc/rc.d/speechd start it starts but spd-say doesn't work. It can't connect to unix socket. What should I
change?
Many thanks,
Christian

Hi all, I have been trying to install the speech-dispatcher git
package found in the arch linux aur, but it fails on autoreconf and I
am not able to find it.

In other words, you don't have the autoreconf binary?
This comes from the autoconf package. Install that, and you should be
good to go. If that doesn't help, then feel free to send me the output
From makepkg off-list, and I'll try to diagnose the problem.
