I just tried it with the branch where I have gcc-4.2.2 installed:
here glibmm-2.16.4 compiles fine against glib-2.16.5!

As mentioned before, this compiler (i.e. libstdc++) also provides
char_traits specializations for char and wchar_t types only (at
least so it seems), so I currently do not know why glibmm compiles
with gcc-4.2.2 but not with gcc-3.3.4  :-((

Any hint would be appreciated!
