Glade 3 and GtkCombobox

Hi All,
I am using Glade3 and use GtkBuilder to create widgets. While using GtkCombobox, when I call gtk_combo_box_append_text, the application crashes. Is the combobox created not created using gtk_combobox_new_text? I need only text options. How to append text items?
