If I initialize the system using pango_cairo_font_map_new_for_font_type(CAIRO_FONT_TYPE_FT), it shouldn't be using the win32 backend, right? Calling pango_cairo_font_map_get_font_type() returns FT as well...

I can see that it's linking to dlls that seem appropriate as well (pangocairo, ft2, fontconfig) - what else should I check?

I might have a bit of time for that - let me get an idea of what's wrong and where it's at first.
