linker error with 1.0.2

Hello,
I've gone quite far with the compilation of gnumeric 1.0.2 but haven't
completed it due to some errors looking very obscure to me. I would very
much appreciate your assistance. I am on Slackware 8.0 with 2.2.19
kernel.

/root/gnumeric-1.0.2/src/dialogs/dialog-search.c:139: undefined reference
to `e_utf8_gettext'
dialogs/libdialogs.a(dialog-search.o): /root/gnumeric-1.0.2/src/dialogs/
dialog-search.c:141:  more undefined references to `e_utf8_gettext' follow
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
