[gedit-list] Mouse middle-button behaviour

There is provision, presumably derived from GPM, to highlight text by 
dragging with the left button down, and to paste a copy by clicking the 
middle button.

Other applications (Nedit, OpenOffice wordprocessor) allow the pasting 
to begin exactly where the dragging stops: with Gedit I find the pasting 
can only happen at some other point on the screen.  If the mouse has not 
been moved, pressing the middle button cancels the highlighting.

Is this deliberate?  Is there a way of changing this behaviour?
