Ok, I've had a look at this..

I think what your saying is there is a strategical weakness in the
GNUChess engine. I'm no chess expert so I can't reproduce the game
your showing.

What to do next:
1. Run gnuchess from your terminal. Depending on how you've installed
you system the executable may be called gnome-gnuchess.
2. Try different options to increase the difficulty (type help to see
the options).
3. Contact the authors of GNUChess - www.gnu.org/software/chess/
4. Try different engines. glChess suports the following:
http://live.gnome.org/glChess/ChessEngines
