[Evolution] learning to compile, need help with finding dependecies in Ubuntu 10.04

Due to a steady increase in crashes (Ubuntu 10.04/ Evo 2.28.3) I decided to look at options. Moving to Ubuntu (10.10) will give me Evo 2.30.?, but for other reasons, I won't be doing that soon. So, I decided to compile, at least then I can always get the latest and can learn a thing or two.

Will someone tell me what to install from the Ubuntu repo to satisfy the following, output of ./configure.
checking for GNOME_PLATFORM... configure: error: Package requirements (gio-2.0 >= 2.25.12
	 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.20.0
	 gail >= 1.9.0
	 gconf-2.0 >= 2.0.0
	 libxml-2.0 >= 2.7.3
	 pangoft2 >= 1.0.1
	 shared-mime-info >= 0.22
	 gnome-desktop-2.0 >= 2.26.0
	 unique-1.0 >= 1.1.2) were not met:

Requested 'gio-2.0 >= 2.25.12' but version of GIO is 2.24.1

Any other useful tips for a beginner compiler in this environment will be welcome.
Thx
