Re: [Evolution] Feature request: store calendar on IMAP

Why not start transferring mail messages in XML? Why not start making up
our own mail send/receive protocols for the hell of it? why not burn
twice as much fuel in cars for the sake of doing so? Why not have
airline pilots make do loopty-loops with their 747's while flying
customers to one airport from another?

just because you can doesn't make it a good idea.

IMAP = Internet Mail Access Protocol

So? If it works and no furry animals is damaged in the process, why not?

the problem is that it doesn't work. We could modify Evolution to use
XML instead of MIME when formatting messages and it would "work" from
Evolution to Evolution, but no other client would support it. Same with
storing contacts in IMAP folders.

Every other client in the world asumes that mail folders store mail.
They don't expect to find calendar entries in there.

besides, why use IMAP at all? Why not use WebDAV? or FTP? IMAP just
doesn't make sense.

Hell, if we're gonna go down the "lets make up our own standards", might
as well write your own protocol for calendaring because it's sure to be
better than IMAP would be for this purpose.
