How many minutes did you set Evolution for the polling interval anyway?

automatically at at time lesser than 10 minutes (let's say every 5
minutes) or if you check it manually every 10 minutes, then the mail
server must be broken.


Or you have NAT timeout or some thing else in the network which is
dropping long lived sessions.  I had this problem with my dsl router and
had to drop the check interval to lower than the NAT time out time
(which could not be changed).
