Don't remember this question to be answered, so here we go...

When this bug (or any bug for that matter) is fixed, what is the
best way for a user to know so that we can download the patch?

Do we just have to monitor the bug's status on bugzilla?

Yes, monitoring the bug (easiest done by adding you to the Cc: list) is
probably the best way.

After there is a patch assigned and it gets somewhat RESOLVED FIXED (in
most cases "in CVS") you can check the snapshots (ftp server or via Red
Carpet) and see if the bug really is fixed -- wait at least 24 hours for
the next build process. Report the bug as VERIFIED, if it is fixed.

You can stay with the snapshots or wait for the next official release.
