Since sending that message, I've seen this work... occasionally.

      * I have found some sites where the "save password?" bar appears;
        but plenty where it does not. 
      * Even most places where the bar does appear, password autofill on
        subsequent visits does not work.

I'll start filing bugs on this stuff.
